Our Awareness Month Kicks-Off with “Walk a Mile In My Shoes!”

We kicked-off our Awareness month of May with our traditional “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” event on the first Saturday (2/05), of the month. The overcast conditions of Saturday morning was not new to us as we’ve had the same type of weather for our first official event over the last two years.

Our Chief Guest for our Awareness Walk this year was one of our very own LFF Ambassadors, a former politician and parliamentarian, agronomist, construction executive and business woman – the amazing Ms. Monica Raghwan! The Lupus Foundation of Fiji would like to thank Ms. Raghwan for accepting our invitation to be our chief guest and kicking-off the Walk with a few words of encouragement. She actually has attended our Awareness Walk every year for the last 7 years of the Foundation’s existence, so getting up very early in the morning is actually part of her normal daily routine.

The Foundation would like to extend our massive thanks and gratitude to our stakeholders, partners and supporters namely the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Fiji Water, Team Tilapia of Leadership Fiji, and The Fiji Times for their generous support every year! Our thanks as well to our Warriors who turned up and also sold a few items and merchandise which they made themselves. Thank you to all our friends and families supporting their loved ones on their journey in life with Lupus! Your unwavering support is always acknowledged and honoured at the Foundation – Vinaka vakalevu sara!

We look forward to our next official event which is International Lupus Day – universally celebrated on the 10th of May! This year however, the 10th of May falls on a Sunday – so the Foundation’s official celebration will be held the following day on Monday the 11th with a brunch at the Albert Park Pavilion Function Room upstairs. The program begins at 10am, and our Chief Guest is the Acting Permanent Secretary for Health – Dr. Luisa Cikamatana. Our Keynote Speaker is Dr. Samuela Korovou, who is a senior lecturer at the University of Fiji at the Saweni Campus.

In the meantime, expect to see the Foundation feature in various Media Outlets across the nation as we work towards our main theme, of – “MAKING LUPUS VISIBLE”, throughout Fiji and the Pacific region.
