Tribute to the Late Mr. Malakai Gucake
The Lupus Foundation of Fiji joins the many across our nation who mourn the passing of Mr. Malakai Gucake, a man whose voice, presence, and passion for informing our people touched countless lives.
We remember Mr. Gucake with deep gratitude and affection for his invaluable support in helping shine the light on lupus — especially for our iTaukei viewers. Through his platform, he created space for conversations that mattered, and he did so with humility, respect, and a genuine heart for the people. Together with his cohost Rupeni Matakibau, Mr. Gucake helped bring lupus out of the shadows, giving visibility to an illness that too often goes unnoticed and misunderstood.
He was more than a broadcaster; he was an advocate, a teacher, and a friend to those seeking understanding. His interviews and discussions were filled with warmth and compassion, helping families grasp the importance of early diagnosis, care, and community support.
Mr. Gucake’s passing leaves a void not only in the media world but in the hearts of all who worked alongside him and those whose lives he helped touch through his work. His contribution to public awareness and to the health and wellbeing of our people will continue to inspire us as we carry forward the mission he so graciously supported.
We will always remember his kindness, his steady voice, and his unwavering commitment to educating our communities.
Rest in peace, Mr. Malakai Gucake.
Your legacy of service and compassion will continue to shine through the lives you’ve helped illuminate.
